So Deceptive

How can such a cute baby be such a monster? It's very deceptive...

Lily has been getting huge. In this particular picture, I believe the fist in the mouth is baby for "Feed me some freakin steak and potatoes already!"

She's about ready for cereal, and almost bigger than the cat, though the cat is doing her best to keep up.

Speaking of keeping up, now that weather is finally nice (It's almost Juy before the weather gets nice? Where are we Wyoming?) there's the usual slew of idiotic riders out on the path. Between the ones that try to keep up with me and almost take me down because they have their heads down in pain when I brake, and the "I haven't ridden a bike in 4 years and will now do so for the first time on a busy bike path" folks, there's no shortage of idiots out there.

Going back to the first set of people, after braking for a family on the bike path (slowing from 25ish to 18ish) I hear a twang, twang, twang which I realize is the idiot sucking my wheel, failing to brake and smacking his spokes against my wheel nuts. Now if i was thinking I would have pulled into his wheel and put him on the ground as a good life lesson, but i was dumbfounded. After lecturing the idiot about the joys of riding ALONE and reminding him that if he can't keep up on his Cervelo while drafting a 200lb guy on a 26 pound fixie carrying a 30 lb bag, maybe that coaching program at Cadence isn't paying off, I told him the best thing to do would probably be to continue his ride well behind me in at his zone 3 heart rate. I'd hate to throw off his training program by having him working too hard following me :)

HAPPY Birthday Lil!

Lily was 3 months old yesterday--for some reason this seems like a big milestone for me, I guess I kept saying "once she's 3 months" this will happen or that will happen (I'm not real sure what these things were)--this was how i felt at each point in the pregnancy too so maybe its part of having kids and planning milestones:)
in some ways it feels like just yesterday I was feeling her tumble around in my belly and then other ways I feel like i've been her mom forever and i've been planning my days around her (and singing Old MacDonald in public places--this is Lil's FAVORITE)

So Lily and I went into the lab everyday this week--I was training the woman who is sharing the post-doc position with me (we're sharing the postdoc and childcare which is an amazing opportunity to continue to work and leave Lily with someone I trust and being able to play with the babies part of the time) and since I dont have anyone to take care of Lily, she came and spent the days in the lab

she was great! what a trooper!! We actually were in the lab working for over 6 hours today and Lil was her normal happy self, impressing everyone that she didnt cry or fuss at all (that's my girl...she's never happier than when she's center of attention and people are cooing at her)--but let me tell you what...I'm EXHAUSTED!! this working thing is rough and i'm not quite ready to go back (at all!)
One of the more fun things about being back is getting to show lily off to all the people who saw her growing over the past year--the FedEx guy stopped by and we chatted for a while...things like that:)

So Lily keeps growing like a weed, outfits that were HUGE last week, fit perfectly now and she's almost completely outgrown our 3 month outfits! Her teeth are also starting to show and she is drooling and putting EVERYTHING she can in her mouth...fun fun:)

AND finally i feel it is only fair that I admit that I was one of THOSE ladies today since I complained about it in an earlier blog--a saleswoman came into the lab and she was 8 months pregnant-- of course after the lady cooed over lily, I found myself joining in the conversation with Kate and this lady about birth, and sharing experiences--ug I did it, ha ha nothing like a baby to make people share their most intimate moments and tell stories to strangers:) Oh well -- I didnt even realize it until I got home and I am vowing to try to be better about not engaging into conversations with strangers about childbirth (though in my defense, she did egg Kate and I on)

SO it was a good day and after a bath, Lily is fast asleep after working hard--both of us will be very happy when Justin gets home tomorrow!

2 1/2 month old infants and plane rides...

SO Lily and I flew to Colorado yesterday, all by ourselves! and she was GREAT!!!

One of the women who I work with had told me while I was pregnant that we should travel ALOT when the baby is young because once they are toddlers it is a lot harder, at the time I was kind of skeptical but now I'm a believer, Lily slept almost the whole 4 hour plane ride and was great in the airport while a little girl who must have been between 1 and 2 years old screamed the whole flight...

the biggest difference was all the stuff we carted around...imagine trying to put your shoes back on and gather all your stuff coming out of the x-ray belt at security with an infant squirming in your arms...that was pretty tough--luckily coming home Justin will at least be getting on a flight close to the same time as us so he will be able to help carry everything and get through security

Anyway I just thought I'd share Lil's latest escapades...she is holding her head up much more (she had control before but tended to let it rest on her chest) and I'm happy to report under all her chins, she does have a neck:)...the cutest thing is that she cant smile and hold her head up, so she looks around with big eyes and a very serious face and then when she wants to smile her head drops
the other wonderful occurence in the last 3 days is that she is sleeping 6-7 hours in a row without waking up!! WAHHOOO the first night I didnt get to appreciate it because I woke up after about 5 and spazzed because she wasnt moving around like normal--but the past 2 nights have been lovely!

She seems to be loving CO so far, of course having grandparents paying so much attention to her is her favorite :) The only thing i've noticed with the higher altitude is that she is spending a bit more time sleeping...She's going to be pretty crazy energetic when we get back to sea level

hope everyone has a great day
